I’m sure almost everyone is tired of hearing about how amazing my trip to California was and how jealous everyone is of the awesome tan I got while there.

Now it’s time for me to share with you why I went to California in the first place … to photograph the wedding of Geordan and Julie Allen!

Calamigos Ranch in beautiful Mailbu California is where it all happened, the setting and weather were absolutely perfect. They were married by our good friend, Bobby Prokenpek, under an arbor that was built by Geordans dad. This wedding was amazing, lots of fun and a beautiful setting. I can’t say thanks enough to Geordan and Julie for having me shoot one my most beautiful weddings to date and for giving me the opportunity to visit the west (read best) coast! Thank you so much, and best of luck to you two in the future!

So it’s Halloween and I’m in California! I’m staying here with Bobby and Anna, and we’re having a great time. We don’t really have any plans tonight except for polishing off a bottle of Sailor Jerry’s rum. However, it will be the perfect evening.

I’ve been having a blast out here. I flew out on Wednesday, shot a wedding on Saturday, and I’m flying home on Friday. A grand total of a 10 day trip … 1 day of work, 9 days of vacation.

Before I came out here I thought I’d be doing a ton of shooting for fun, but so far, aside from the wedding, I’ve only taken my digital camera out once. Other than that I’ve been shooting with film and my iPhone. Polar opposites if you ask me. It’ll be a while before I get the film developed, so until then, here’s some photos from my phone.

I’d like to introduce you to Isashah, pronounced ee-saw-shuh. Without sounding horribly pretentious, I guess the best way to describe it is to call her my muse. She was my go-to model for anything that I wanted to try for the past year. She’s absolutely gorgeous, her beauty is unmatched. She’s not your typical 5’8″, emaciated, sunk-in-cheek model …. she’s short and covered with tattoos … I love shooting with her. We met on model mayhem a little over a year ago, set up a little shoot and had fun. Then about 5 months later, I contacted her to see if she wanted to shoot again, and that’s when it started. I’m really not sure how we first approached shooting nude, but as it turns out she’s very comfortable in her skin, and we went with it. Most of the shoots we did ended up with her half-naked in some relatively public place. It just worked out between us, we even got to be really good friends. I don’t see her as much as I’d like to now. She’s got a job working as a tattoo artist (a damn good one) and work has been busier for me too. Most of what we’ve done hasn’t been seen but by a handfull of people. While I love every single shoot that we’ve done, most of the time it was experimenting. And while she was perfect in every shoot, sometimes what I was trying didn’t exactly work or the end result just didn’t fit in with the look and feel of the rest of my work. I’ve decided that these photos are too beautiful to not be seen. This is just a small sample of all the work we’ve done together.

She’s beautiful. End of story. Sometimes I wish that I could just use her for my entire portfolio. Maybe I’ll dedicate a section of my website to her. She deserves it.

Atlanta’s Most Fun … I mean Eligible

I recently had the opportunity to shoot a large portion of the Atlanta’s Most Eligible feature for the current (August ’11) issue of Jezebel Magazine. I think we had entirely too much fun.

Marathon photography is what it was, we were doing 2-5 photo shoots per day for 5 days. Not just little one-shot photo shoots where you do one setup per person, but we did 3 looks and locations for each subject. It was intense but I wouldn’t have had it any other way! We did all of the shoots in some amazing locations including 05 Buckhead, The Grand Hyatt, MF Sushi, and Jezebel’s office in the Terminus building. By the end of it, I did 15 shoots for this issue, I even did a new headshot for the editors profile in the magazine!

I worked with the best crew ever as well, there were lots of them, if I tried to name them all I would definitely forget one and feel pretty bad about it.. Also, huge thanks to Jess Raney as my trusty assistant for the whole thing!

A little overboard

I think I may have gone overboard (if there is such a thing) with iPhone photography apps. I have no less than 10 that I use fairly regularly. My favorites? Instagram for sure. I like the built in sharing features that it has, I can send it to Twitter, Facebook, Tumblr, and it’s shared on Instagram’s website. My other favorite is Andigraf Multi-lens, it’s sort of like a Lomo. You can change your film type and 4 different Lomo lenses, two configurations of four lenses, eight lenses, and nine lenses. Lots of fun. I just downloaded Photosynth by Microsoft, it’s a panorama stitching app. It can be a little fickle at times, but when you get it to work it’s really cool.
