role reversal

You’re always seeing digital photos of people holding film cameras. I don’t know why people feel the need to show off their Holga’s or Canon AE-1′s, I would much rather be showing off PhaseOne or something. What you never see are photos taken on film of people holding digital cameras. I heard someone make this observation, and the I remembered that I actually had a photo that I shot on film of someone holding a digital camera. I took this with a Hasselblad 500C on some TMAX 400, and of course cropped to 8.5×11. (and then I spent hours clone stamping out dust spots)
While I’m on the subject of film …. I don’t understand this whole “film look” phenomenon that people are so fascinated with. Don’t get me wrong, it’s an interesting look and it definitely has it’s place in the world … but it doesn’t look like film!!! I’ve shot a lot of film, no where near as much as the old school guys, but for a guy who got his start in the digital age i’ve shot my fair share of film. My actual film doesn’t look anything like this faux film look. I think we need to find another name for that other than the “film look” because really, it’s nothing like film. |
